Our favourite animatronic figures are out of their boxes, and it’s time to show the little ones how things used to be done. Yep, the Moving Crib at St Martin Apostolate’s, 42 Parnell Square, has been around for more than half a century. Basically, it’s a nativity play featuring more than 100, handcrafted figurines “depicting biblical life”, lots of pretty, hand-painted backdrops and sets, and a few wild animals (they’re not real, obviously). All the lads are in there, from Joseph and Mary to the three wise blokes. The scenes are set and the figures are moving as we speak — you know what to do. Free admission (donations welcome)

What to do Dublin DecemberThe Christmas Eve Busk, Grafton Street  24th December 2016

We’re not encouraging you to sing for your Christmas dinner but we would suggest you keep an eye on Twitter and head down Grafton Street on Xmas eve around 4- 6ish. Why? Because Bono might be there — along with other famous Irish musicians like Hozier who sometimes swing by for a Christmas Eve busking session in aid of the Dublin Simon Community. Failing that Christmas Eve pints is a big tradition and we can recommend the Long Hall, Davy Byrnes and Grogans. All not too far from Grafton Street. Just don’t forget your shopping bags and drink sensibly!

 Forty Foot  Christmas Day Sim

What to do Dublin DecemberFancy a Christmas Day dip? Get yourself down to the forty foot in Sandycove (or other locations on Dublin’s Coastline) for a baltic but uplifting dip in the Irish sea: Santa hat is of course compulsory. If you can’t face the icy waters just cheer on the brave (or foolish) Dublin souls
